Volunteer Program
Adult volunteers play a crucial role in student learning and are particularly valued in Primary or Junior School settings. Both staff and students deeply appreciate the assistance provided. Volunteering is open to parents with children in our school, senior citizens, and any adult in our community.
Depending on the nature of the volunteer position, a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSC) may be required. This requirement is standard procedure but may be waived at the discretion of the school principal under certain circumstances. Coaches are required to have a VSC for organized activities, while trip supervision or group activities usually do not necessitate a VSC. Please discuss the specific requirements with the classroom teacher, course instructor, coach, or volunteer coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator can offer further guidance as needed.
Adults contribute in various ways, such as listening to children read, assisting in baking sessions, typing, creating teaching materials, supporting sports events, aiding in specialized classes, teaching passion projects, and chaperoning trips. We appreciate those who give of their time, and no prior experience is necessary!
Volunteer commitments and assignments are tailored to meet the needs of both the school and the individual volunteer. Your participation as an extra set of eyes, ears, hands, or even as a driver greatly enhances our ability to provide the best possible program for each child.
In consideration of student privacy and learning, teachers may regulate opportunities within their classrooms and may prefer to limit direct involvement in day-to-day classroom activities. However, volunteering can take various forms, and while the classroom program may not be structured for extensive volunteering, there are still ample opportunities for parents to get involved and contribute to our school community.
All parents appreciate a distraction free classroom environment and to support this, we limit the use of classroom volunteers during instructional time to very specific activities
When arriving, all volunteers are asked to check in with the office. A sticker that signifies to staff and students that you are a volunteer should be worn while you are in the school. This ensures that everyone is aware that you are an authorized person and that the school knows you are here.
