Fully Asynchronous Courses (Online Self-Paced Coursework)
For fully Asynchronous learning happening in online only courses, the course is designed for the student to participate regularly in a variety of activities.
The format of these course types will be indicated within the course outline so that parents and students are aware that the course is Asynchronous and largely self-directed.
Although self-paced, these courses will have teacher determined deadlines and due dates for course evaluations. All procedures with reference to late and missed assignments, final evaluations, and reporting procedures also apply to these courses.
Each teacher will communicate the attendance requirements with reference to the expected pace of on-line engagement. Typically, students will be required to log in daily for the equivalent of a synchronous class timeframe. The MyInnovOak platform will be used to track student on-line engagement. For these courses, the teacher has a criterion for the amount of work that needs to be completed along with the logging in and out of the system. Both need to be completed to meet the credit hour requirement for the online Asynchronous learning component. Teachers will also have offline work, projects and assignments that help round off the learning needed for the required credit hours.
Teachers and administration will follow up with those students who fail to make progress in their on-line courses as outlined in the attendance procedures.
Because fully Asynchronous courses rely on more independent student learning, there are more mandatory tasks to complete that require a high degree of regular student commitment and organization. Students are cautioned to not cut corners for the requirements as these activities and time spend measure the ability to grant a credit with integrity.
