Adult Students - Sharing Responsibility (Students Turning 18)

When a student turns 18 in Ontario, they are legally considered to be adults under the law and the school in no longer able to discuss with parents any issues that will violate the student’s privacy. Students can choose to have their parents and guardians carry on in a traditional support role. Parents and students should discuss this before a student turns 18 and request a consent form from the main office. This form gives consent to the school staff to continue to involve parents through ongoing communication and access to student reports and attendance records until graduation. The form cannot be signed by the student until their 18th birthday and we must remove parents as primary contacts on that same date.
